Four people lost their lives in Nairobi when armed personnel opened fire and used teargas to break up massive crowds at a stadium where opposition leader Raila Odinga's corpse was displayed for homage.

Crowds also flooded nearby roads and attempted to breach the government complex, where the government had initially planned the public viewing.

While predominantly identified as an government critic, Odinga became senior minister in 2008 and also established a political pact with the leader last year in a career marked by evolving coalitions.

He inspired passionate devotion among adherents, notably in his cultural background based in the country's west, many of whom maintain he was deprived of the presidency by vote manipulation.
